NHTI Announces 2021 EFDA Program

The Business Training Center at NHTI – Concord’s Community College announces that the 2021 EFDA program is now accepting applications and works to expand the credentials and skills of dental assistants and dental hygienists to elevate their roles in caring for dental patients. The EFDA candidates will complete unique clinical training that certifies them for key roles within dental practices to enhance practice efficiencies by helping treat more patients. The rigorous eight-week program will run Feb. 15, 2021–May 2, 2021, and is offered through NHTI’s Business Training Center. Tuition for the program is $7,500. The program cohort is limited to 10 people and will fill quickly.  Applications may be found at nhti.edu/efda

“The need for people trained in dentistry continues to rise,” said NHTI’s Lynnea Adams CDA, BA, former coordinator and now chief EFDA consultant for the college. “Having this program up and running is an important development for nonprofits and private practices because it trains dental assistants and dental hygienists to administer advanced care, while allowing teams to help more patients each day.”

The EFDA certification qualifies certified dental assistants and hygienists to place, contour, and adjust the materials used in restorative procedures, following the removal of decay by the dentist. After completing NHTI’s 270-hour training program, which includes 120 hours of clinical training with a sponsoring dentist, EFDA candidates must register with the N.H. Board of Dental Examiners. The candidate must work under the direct supervision of a licensed New Hampshire dentist and complete the required annual continuing education coursework.

“My role as an EFDA has been amazing,” said Misty Griffin, CDA, EFDA, who completed the program in 2017 and is now the lead clinical instructor for the 2021 cohort. “I’ve always had a passion for dentistry and really wanted to make a difference in the industry. This program truly allowed me to raise the bar of excellence as a dental assistant.”

NHTI’s program – developed with funding from Northeast Delta Dental, the New Hampshire Dental Society, and the NH Dental Society Foundation – prepares the certified dental assistant (CDA), graduates of ADA-CODA accredited dental assisting programs, and registered dental hygienists to become integral in the hands-on placement of restorative materials.
